It was Judges Pick Week where the contestants each are assigned a song by a judge and get to pick a song of their own choosing. As you may have guessed, Simon chose Adam’s song. Simon picked “One” by U2 for Adam to belt out. Adam chose “Cryin’” by Aerosmith as his song of choice. Both excellent choices!
Impressively stripped down wearing jeans and little make-up Adam slowed down “One” a wee bit and made this power ballad his own. His voice came through clear and perfect. Simon was proud of his song choice and Adam’s rendition. Kara said he sounded incredible. Paula said she’s looking at an American Idol and he will be in the finals. Randy enjoyed it but wasn’t over the top about the arrangement, but agreed it was excellent.
After a change of clothes to add some rockin’ leather and heavier liner Adam definitely did Aerosmith proud with his version of “Cryin’.” His vocals were sharp and he was able to put a spin on the song to stand apart from Steven Tyler’s incredible vocal tracks. Workin’ the stage is what Adam does and he didn’t hold back tonight. All four judges loved it! While Randy, Kara, and Paula gushed over Adam, Simon was quick to point out that no one should assume Adam will glide into one of the top two spots for next week. Sometimes people become complacent when they think they’re guy will be fine without them but think back to the last time his fans did that — he was in the bottom three (while they voted for Allison to stay instead). Simon made it clear that Adam should be voted on because he has the talent to WIN. Adam needs our votes even more now than ever before …. so GO VOTE!!!!!
I was very impressed with Adam’s dual performances tonight. I had heard U2’s One rumored online but after last week’s prediction being incorrect I didn’t want to pay much mind to it. When I found out he was doing “One” the first thing I thought of was Metallica – and I got soooooo excited at the possibility! I knew I had heard U2 BUT the prospect was too incredible to not enjoy for a second even if it weren’t going to be true. lol. I lovvvved that he sang an Aerosmith song! His voice is just too perfect for it not to! Aerosmith is just one band I had been waiting for all season…..them and Queen, and Guns n Roses. At least I got one! Oh – and Bohemian Rhapsody at the audition! – which was excellent, btw!
I was most happy that Adam did his own stripped down thing this week with clothes and make-up!!! I love him every week, BUT I do think the Idol people make him up TOO MUCH!. Too much make-up! I loved that his clothing, hair, and liner were how he goes out on a daily basis! So nice to see him toned down…been waiting for that week after week. Smiles

I was least pleased with the backup band and singers who seemed to overpower Adam’s voice tonight. That’s NOT OKAY! They both need to be toned down for next week’s performance. No one noticed this during rehearsals???
On Kris and Danny – well, not impressed with either, really. Danny definitely can’t sing the low notes, or the high notes. He sounds great with those middle notes….very solid. That’s where he thrives. But how do you vote for someone who can’t carry an entire song through from beginning to end AND be consistent every week? I can’t.
I thought Kris was better than Danny tonight on both of his songs. The second was better than the first. Honestly, I think Kris should be in the top two alongside Adam …. but I don’t think Kris is anywhere good enough to be The Idol.

Regarding “international voting,” I do not know if this works only in the Philippines, but I simply added “00″ in front of 1-866-43657 and then whatever number/s is/are assigned for Adam. So 03, 06 or 09 yesterday. Same goes with Kris and Danny’s numbers. A VO says that the call is not free, but every time I check my load, I wasn’t charged! So anyways, I voted from 11am-2pm here, that’s probably around 8pm-10pm in the US. (I’m sooo not sure what our time difference is, sorry!) We get to watch Idol like 9 hours after you guys do. But I rely on spoilers because I can’t work well until I know that Adam’s safe! haha =D

KRIS and ADAM for the FINAL!! I thought Kris did brilliantly and finally got the praise that he deserved from Simon & the other judges. I am very impressed by his brave song choice on ‘Heartless’. Personally, I love Adam’s slower songs much more than his full-out rock songs. I loooove Adam’s Mad World/Tracks/If I Can’t/Feeling Good/Black or White [I also love his Pre-Idol "Pop goes the camera"] but I have really disliked everything he has sung this week and last week. I think “One” should have been sung softer and more heartfelt. I am feeling so disconnected emotionally from Adam in his recent very staged performances. And I think he should make sure the backing instruments carry a strong beat but don’t just sound like NOISE, I want to hear Adam’s voice clearly, not just the overpowering backing electrical instruments. If Adam picks a fast/loud/rock song he should pick one with a strong funky memorable beat and tune (like Black or White, or Pop goes the Camera). I am looking forward to Adam reconnecting with audience emotionally next week and doing a more vulnerable performance.

I agree that my fave Adam performances are the power ballads – Mad World, If I Cant Have You – but I also enjoy the hard rocking one’s, too. A friend of mine at work suggested I might be upset if Simon assigned him a ballad instead of a rocking song, but no – like you said there’s more emotional connection to power ballads. Perhaps Adam is scared of them right now because the last one he sang – If I Cant Have You – landed him in the bottom three? (Although its my understanding that was only because fans rallied to keep Allison and Kris in, which took voting time away from Adam). Personally, I want to hear him sing “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane…such a powerful song. Or some Queen or GnR. Both have power ballads he can choose from.
I also agree with you about the backup band and backup singers. Last night they both overpowered his voice and that shouldn’t happen. Being tired last night I forgot to include that in my post so I may edit that info in…….I was disappointed the backup singer was louder than he was – that was nonsense!
I agreed Kris did well last night and wrote he should be in the Top Two! He sounded great lsat night. Much better than Danny. As far as winning, though, – for me, it would be a no-go. Just not enough – **sparkle** lol … but DEF the Top Two!
